In this intense reflection day, I would like to share with you all my objectives for next year. This is what I want to achieve:

CURRENT PROFESSIONAL LIFE

Get a permanent job;

Organize the best Career Day for Politecnico di Milano that I can do.

FUTURE PROFESSIONAL LIFE

Define a time line for my future enterprise;

Find at least one person to share the idea with and work together;

Find an entity that could support me to create and develop the enterprise.

PERSONAL LIFE

Read at least 5 new books;

Make at least 5 travels abroad. 2 of them have to be in places in which I've never been before. After one year internship I had to change my job because they stopped hiring at staff level. Now I'm working at Politecnico of Milan since the begin of December. Honestly: I like it so much, so in the end I feel happier!

To move some steps towards the company that I want to start in some years. --> failed. I moved some steps but I didn't do enough or at least as much as I expected and wanted. I wrote some notes, read some books, but actually I didn't do anything so concrete. Most probably the best thing that I did was in changing the job from Recruitment and Selection to proper Employer Branding Activities, definitely closer to my future business idea.

Be a volunteer for ABIO (Patch Adams) n.g.o. --> done. It's since June that I'm going to the hospital to read good night stories to children, amazing experience.

To have a stable "love" life. --> failed. I had the chance to meet and know many new people during those months, but honestly I personally didn't try enough in order to create a deeper relationship with any girl. Maybe I didn't need it so badly because I was too focused on finding my balance in my daily life or because I didn't find the girl that really inspired me. I don't know the reason, but the result was extremely negative.

Keep in touch with all the friends that I care the most and that are far from Milan. --> done. It was really hard and complicated, but after having recovered a good friendship during this Christmas period, I can definitely say that despite all the challenges I got good results. Of course all the web 2.0 tools helped me, but I've also putted a lot of efforts in making all this relationships growing.

To practice sport regularly. --> done. In the first part of the year I was playing soccer sometimes or going to swim. Since September I started to play volleyball again, at least twice a week. Therefore I'm absolutely proud of my self!

To make at least 3 travels abroad and to visit at least one place where I've never been before. --> done. Malta, Bonn are the placed that I visited this year in which I've never been before. Additionally I went to Prague, Wien, Zurich (twice).

Well, this is all about. I would also try to make a final evaluation of this 2009.

I would say that this was my first year in the job world. I was in a different city doing completely new things. I was also trying to create a new life with new things. I'm very happy because I didn't put all my energy on working but I've also tried to get involved in different things (ABIO, volleyball) in order to learn more and to meet new people. I continued to travel, to keep in touch with my friends, to dream. I would say that my biggest failure was about "love affair", even if I think I was not ready to have a serious relationship.

Vote to 2009: too many bad things happened around to world, but I can see that also different amazing people are trying to change it. 6

Vote to me in 2009: I think that I reacted well to all the changes that happened in my life and even if I'm still trying to adapt and to put all the pieces together, I can definitely say that I was pretty good during this year. 7

Very soon my 2010 objectives.

Cheers and peace

Ages, so bad...

<meta equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; It had been a very intense period, full of changes and reflection moments that brought me to a different perspective about my current state and future perspectives. Little by little, I’ll try to write down what happened.

WORK SIDE. In September I got the news from my manager in PwC that the company decided to stop hiring people at stall level. That meant that my internship wasn’t going to be transformed into a formal contract. Considering my initial objective (get hired) I had to change my perspectives. I needed to figure out what I wanted from my life and according to this, how the new job should have look like. I wanted something still around HR, not necessary in Recruitment and Selection. I wanted to continue to stay in touch with the labour market and to be close to students that are looking for the first employment. I wanted a job either in Milan (if it was going to be in Italy) or anywhere abroad. I wanted to move to a employment basis contract, not internship. So I started to look around, applying everywhere. I can definitely say that if I hadn’t my personal network of contacts, no one would have call me! So few positions around, so few opportunities connected to what I was looking after. In the end I’ve been lucky, very lucky (my understanding of luck is “when competency meets opportunity”) because I found a very interesting and dynamic job. I’m now Project Manager of a Career Day event (the biggest in Italy) for the Politecnico in Milan. I’ve to care of all the aspects concerning the project, from selling to planning, logistics, team management, communication. I’ve been lucky also because it reflects all the characteristics listed before.

SPORT SIDE. After practicing soccer on regular basis during the summer period (I also won a trophy with some friends here in Milan even if I was at the bench J), I decided in Milan that I had to start plying volleyball again because I needed it! So I started searching and in the end I was found from a mixed team (I don’t know exactly the translation in English, it’s a team composed by guys and girls). I went for a test and I loved the atmosphere and the spirit. So I started to play with them and since September I didn’t miss a training. We are not performing very well in the championship even if we are improving a lot. I’m player as setter in the starting six, I’m enjoy so much and having a lot of fun with everyone there: they are very nice and interesting individuals and we also are trying to catch up sometime out of the gym.

VOLUNTEER: I’m still going on a regular basis to the hospital reading good night stories and fables to children. It’s still a surprising experience, full of reflection, self discovery and smiles. It’s so exciting when all these children approach you in order to listen to stories with their smiling faces. Something extraordinary, really.

TRAVELING: during these months I’ve been to Zurich once, to Bonn and Koln to visit a friend of mine, and I also went to sky. Especially the last trip was super: I’ve been there with some friends from the volleyball team and we had a lot of fun, tons of fun, really. We skied, we laughed, we drunk, we eaten. Amazing, really amazing.

HOUSE SIDE: still living with Fede, still in the CaCoHouse. Everything was perfect so far.

RANDOM: tomorrow night Fede and I will depart from Milan, direction Catania. We are going to chair an AIESEC conference. It will be a very interesting experience, back in the association after more then 2 years but with a different brain and different perspectives. I’m so curios to see what will happen.

Well, I think I wrote enough. As I said, those had been the destinations of my travel.

Zurich: I went there to meet with the national presidents of my term in AIESEC. So I spent very good moments with Aine (Ireland), Lars (Norway), Francois (France). Indeed there were few more people around and all together we had a lot of fun.

Then I moved to Pisa to stay a bit with my family and meeting with Michele. I was there with Pimpy too!

Third stop had been Malta. I'd never been there and I was so surprised! The sea is super, really, I couldn't imagine. As I wrote in previus post, I was there with Pimpy and two amazing hosts: Barbara and Alba. I felt like at home, thanks my friends.

And as last I went to Sicily to attend at Maria and Giuseppe's wedding. Above it a text: "VACATION!"

I'm counting down the days. So far 6 are missing until my summer holidays. Three amazing weeks of relax and friends.

Before talking about what will happen, I would like to stop on what happened one year ago. I was on a plane to NY with Michy. I was going to have maybe the best summer of my life... I miss so much it, every time that I think about NY I almost cry. I hope one day I'll go back there.

Anyway, this year will be much different.

FIRST PART: 3 days in Zurich for our WENA MCPs reunion. Last time was in Munich in 2007, that's quiet a long time. I'm so happy I'm going to spend some time with them, full immersion in memories and feelings.

SECOND PART: 4 days in Pisa. A sort of excuse to meet with my family and some friends. I'll be there with Pimpy (alias Matteo Orsi). Beaches, food, sleep. No more plans for it!

THIRD PART: 12 days in Malta, still with Pimpy. It will be my first time there, I'm so excited. I'll hosted by two special friends, Barbara and Alba, thanks in advance my dears. What will happen there? Parties, beaches, parties and so on! WOWOWOWOW

FOURTH AND FINAL PART: 3 days in Sicily. Maria, one of my best friends, is going to marry so I'll go in the island (it's quiet long time that I don't go there) to see some relatives and to enjoy that special moment.

This is the plan and this is most probably my last post before I come back in Milan at the end of August. So, I'm wishing you all the best for this special August.

Cheers and peace.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://cisco.nomadlife.org/2009/07/ive-door-in-front-of-me-above-it-text.html' title='I've a door in front of me. I've shared my ideas with some friends and I've also defined the activities that I would like to run. I finished with classes and now twice a month I go into a hospital in Milan to read fables and stories to children before they go sleep. It's an amazing experience, full of emotions and smiles. I'm incredible happy for what I'm doing.

To have a stable "love" life. --> I can say that I've never been so far from the word stable. I see many improvements for this area.

To practice sport regularly. Here you're some graphic tips:

That was simply amazing, thanks my friends!

Cheers and peace!

Tomorrow Butterflies meeting in Sirmione!

One year had been passed since we met all together in Florence having good time and sharing memories and dreams about our future. Many things happened during these months and it will be absolutely amazing to meet again sharing all those experiences that we had.

What am I talking about? Pretty obvious: the AIESEC in Italy member committee members are going to meet tomorrow along Garda's lake!

This meeting is happening in a perfect moment of my life, right when I've so many questions with so few answers. I'm really looking forward for it and to see again all my dear friends.

Wish to update some feelings and pics of these 4 days next week.

Cheers and peace.

Happy Easter

Hello my friend,

right now I'm in Pisa to celebrate Easter with my family. I've met with some friends and still I've some to meet. Tomorrow I'll jump on a train to go back to Milan. In the end it was a short vacation, relaxing and eating a LOT!

Some updates. I've moved in the new house a month ago, it's super! Federico and me are sharing a room together and we have a kitchen and a living room (plus a bathroom of course!). The house is very nice and it's right in the centre of Milan and very close to my office.

Job, that's a nice subject. Time for my internship is getting over, just a month and a couple of weeks left. I hope that soon I'll be updated by PwC about my future and I also hope that the update will be positive. So far I've got very good feedbacks about my work and my approach, so I've faith about being confirmed and hired inside the company. By the way the financial crisis that we are living in this period doesn't make me feel comfortable and that positive. We'll see.

In the end my last thought goes to the people in Abruzzo (an Italian region) that had been living tremendous moments because of and earthquake: that tragedy was enormous, I've also cried because of that I hope from the really bottom of my heart that they will be able to rise up again and to start their lives.

Cheers and peace.

That's a leader

My second month in Milan

Hello my dear friends,

my second month in Milan is almost over. Many things happened during this period, I would say that all of them were very positive even if there are some negative aspects. Let's start with these last: mainly being so far from my hometown and be aware that it's going to be for a long time, is making me understand the really meaning of indeendency from family. The other side of the medal is that I do really miss my family and some friends there. Just during this week I've received some emails from relatives and friends telling me "I've many good news (or bad news) to tell you, but I want to do it face to face". That's pretty hurting because I'm missing a big part of life of the people that I care. I don't really know how to deal with it.

On the other hand, my life here is super. I'm out all the nights hanging out with friends or practicing some sport (I subscribed for a SPA, running, cycling and swimming). I went to some art exposition, cabaret shows,... That's super! I also like pretty muck my job and I think that my induction is going on very smoothly. My colleagues are vey nice and friendly, the atmosphere in the office is calm and relaxed with people smiling, I like it!

In a month I'll move from my current place and I'm going to leave in the centre of Milan with one of my best friend, Federico: we've already lived together in Milan while we were both in the national committee of AIESEC. That's another great new for me and I'm really looking forward for this change. Federico and me have been to Austria at the beginning of January for three days, we stayed in Salzburg for one night then in Wien for two. It was very nice, especially Wien is awesome! I hope I can upload some pics soon.

One last sad consideration: I've not any internet connec

tion at home, that's why I'm not really present on the blog and even in some other web spaces. Life here had been very exciting and thriving. I'm doing many things everyday, right the opposite as it was before in Pisa.

I like very much my work, I'm learning very fast many things about Human Resources (I'm currently working in the HR team in PwC, focusing on recruiting and selection). I also like the team where I'm working in; they are all young and always smiling and welcoming. The atmosphere is positive and everyone is really happy and is deeply enjoying its time in the company.

I'm also having a very dynamic life out of the office. Almost every night I'm out of the house with my friends, either for a party or simply for a dinner. I like it so much because even if I feel pretty often tired, I'm feeling like I'm really enjoying my life and my time here.

As you can see I've started my new journey in a positive way and I know (and hope indeed) that my future will be even better and full of happy and challenging days.

Cheers and peace.

There's no much difference between living and leaving

That's my last day in Pisa, tomorrow morning I'll depart direction Milan. In few hours I'll be back in a city that hosted me for two years, with many memories and friends. I'll start a new life, with a real job which I've to adapt. I feel so excited about this change and I'm really thinking that in the end there's no much difference between living and leaving: tomorrow I'll leave to start living new experiences and feelings.

What I'm leaving behind is at the same time something very deep: my family as first, my city where I grown up, many friends both old and newies. I thank everyone for the nice time we had together: when I came back from Milan in July 2007, I was thinking that my time in Pisa was just about studying and get my final degree. In the end I got much more and I feel so grateful to all those people that made this year a very special and unforgettable one.

Cheers and peace!

Another inspiring man

I guess all of you heard about Randy Pash, former professor at Carnegie Mellon, that gave is last lecture before dying some months ago. I'm talking about Nelson Mandela and his book "Long walk to freedom" that I've just read.

It was incredibly inspiring, so full of emotions and feelings, so deep inside my heart and my mind. A great example of leadership and also an example for many people around the globe. I felt so proud that people like Mr. Mandela lived (and are still living) on this planet and dedicated their own life for a better world. I suggest everyone to run through this book and this life, it's breathless.

Cheers and peace!

Famous quote

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. After such a wonderful summer I've started my waiting time before start to work. I've sent some CVs and had some interviews but the financial situation is not really helping me in finding my place. All the big companies are stopping hiring because are afraid of budgets and crisis, so there's not a big offer of job.

What am I doing in the meanwhile? Well, not so much. I know that my future life will not be in Pisa anymore, so I can't start anything until I move. I just read a lot, doing some physical activity (like soccer or running), watching movies and finishing the internship that I've started in June. I'm feeling like I'm completely wasting my time and I'm feeling really far from what I want to do and what I want to be. That's such a mess and I can't really see the end of this.

Hopefully I'll have some feedbacks next week from my interviews and in case at least one of them will be positive, for sure my life will change: by the way until that moment I'll be lying in the hands of bore.

Cheers and peace!

Leaving New York: final part.

In a couple of hours I'll be on a bus (then a metro, then a train, then an airplane, then another airplane) to come back to Italy... But suddenly that day arrives and you can't do anything else then wrap up your experience.

What I've learn:

NY is a city of opportunities: if you've a dream and a good plan to make it happen, just do it!

NY is a stressful city, always running even if you don't have any reason to run.

NY is enormous, I guess there are no borders :-)

In US know how to do politics and how to live it, in Italy we are ages behind.

In US there's a highest spirit of ownership toward the country: everyone here feels proud to be American and the system pushes you (and actually enables you) to do your best to contribute to the American dream.

Americans are very loud, too much loud. They never relax, I don't like it!

In NY there are a lot of different ethnic groups (Blacks, south Americans, Chinese, Italians , Jewish, Gays and so on): they live together in peace and that's amazing. the city is very safe and everyone can really live his own life without being in troubles and being judged.

Boston is simply amazing.

In the end: I think that this experience was the best choice for me in order to understand many different things either about my self and a bit more about the world around me. I understood that if you really want to know a city you can't be a tourist but a citizen and it makes all the difference.
Now that I'm moving back to Italy I'm taking with me many good memories of places and people, a lot of thoughts and reflection moments about my future and what I want to do. I really hope that I'll be able to make my dreams happen even if far from this land of opportunities.

Cheers and peace!

Leaving New York: part 2

Hello from US! What's up with you? Missing me?

This post is not really about NY, well, it doesn't talk about NY at all. This week I've been to Boston where I spent 3 days. Some of Michele's relatives hosted us in their place, thanks to Katia and Giorgio. They are both immigrants from Italy, two amazing person that made me feel like at home: they took care of me, they cooked for me (when I talk about me, I mean us, Michele included). We eaten so much and everything was so good... Giorgio is a former chef in many restaurants, so you can imagine. He also cooked for us some great lobsters... amazing!

About the city: Boston is simply breathless, one of the most beautiful city that I've never seen. So quiet (also compared to NY), so full of green and water (there's the ocean and a river), it's not high (very few sky grapes) and it's full of brains: consider that there's Harvard, MIT, UMASS (University of Massachusetts) and many more great universities. While you walk around you can breathe fresh air that is something that I was actually missing. I'll never forget this city, I simply love it. There's not much to see (the JFK museum is super) but it's the perfect place to relax. You can see some pics of the travel below.

About the current situation: I've 4 more days in US, I think I'm going to miss many thing. The experience so far was beyond expectations with many learning points and experiences. If you have to choose something similar in your near future, go for it, you'll never regret.

Cheers and peace!<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; So we are going to have few ore day in the city, still looking around and learning, because we should never stop to learn! Today we had the last laundry and in the afternoon we'll go again to Manhattan to buy the last things (touristic stuff mainly). We also expect to have a lounge night tonight in some particular cool place that Gianpy knows... we'll see!

Cheers and peace!
