Elections in Italy for the parliament

This image represents the cover page of the most famous economical newspapers "The Economist". What they hopped finally happened and now we have a new president of our parliament, Romano Prodi (the other picture), that defeated Berlusconi for a very small merge of votes.

I really hate politic and politicians, especially the Italian ones that think to their profit and advantages than the wealth of our country. I'm not an expert, but I can resume my thoughts about elections in several points to make everything easier:

1) politics is moved by economy not by social interests. Our politicians are more interested in making money and create profit in a short term overview, than creating some good basis in order to enable the growth of our country that's the poorest among EU.

2) our politicians in the last part of their mandates start to make short term actions for two main reasons: the first one is to have more votes in coming elections; the second one is for not leaving anything to continue to the next parliament in case they will not be re-elected.

3) politics is all about communication: Berlusconi is one of the best communicator and this is the reason why he got so many votes. Politic is not anymore about contents, manifesto, numbers: it's just about touching the earth of the people and their wallets!

4) politics is less interesting for young people. They don't like how those people lead our country and they don't like how they act. Our politicians behave like children and they discuss like they are competing for a toy and not for a country where are living thousands people.

5) our future is completely unknown. I'm pretty sure that in less then one year Prodi will lose his leadership and that we'll vote again.. is it possible? Is it normal? Italy is the only country where exists something similar.. Now the opposition side (leaded by Berlusconi) will work to destroy this government and not to help them to improve the Italian situation.. that's ridiculous!

6) I'm even more convinced that politics is not made for me.. and I'm not made for being a politician!

7) in Italy there are a lot of "coglioni" :-)

  • Hey dear,
you know.... I really like this article... because I have some points in common with you... but also some different ideas..so, it's the time to share them in your blog.

I don't hate politics...I think is in its nature to be in that way...try to find a right compromise between different side...and as you know... when you try to do that... at the end nobody is happy!!!

But, I agree with you that we need to change something in Italy. We have the same politicians from 40 years. So few young people are making politics and we assist everyday in "cambio di poltrone". Today your are Internal Ministry, tomorrow you will be at the Sanity and so on..
That's produce a sense of "hostility" towards this discipline.
But, I think it's our interest try to understand how we could be more interested to political issue. We don't need to become all politicians... but everyone in their social position...need to be interested in what is going on in the politcal reality. Politics is our way to practise the democracy. We, as young people, use to say: "I don't like politics...it's a "beeeep"... but...political representatives reflect their society...
When we'll change our attitude...I think the society will change...and as a consequence... we will have a different politicians.

That's my tought on that topic. I hope you will appreciate my sharing like I appreciated your original idea..:-)
Take care brother and... have you a nice Easter

P.S. Sincerely, I hope that the new Government leaded by Prodi will do his work... and we will not going to vote again after one year....We are already on the top of the critics all around the world.. our "brains" are leaving Italy... instability will be the worste solution in that moment....

    The o

I'm looking the italian situation from abroad and, all the critics said that Berlusconi is not good....

  • Opss... At the end of the previuos comment I did not finish my sentence... it was...

"I'm looking the italian situation from abroad and, all the critics said that Berlusconi is not good... but there are reason to doubt whether his centre-left opponent Romano Prodi, would be a lot better."

That's Italy in the mirror of the critic... what will be our future? Do we need to be ready to "scendere in campo anche noi"???

  • Hello my dear brother,

I completelly agree with you and your thoughts. We need a generation change leaded by some young politicians that really want to change things.

At this time I don't see so many young leaders that are interested in politics, even if the salary is very high! The reason is because it's very difficult to arrive at the top when you're young.. you need a lot of years to raise the top and when you'll reach the maximum position you're old and you need to be changed. We have to change the system, not only our politicians.

About Prodi: if he will be able to take together people like Bertinotti, we'll be sure that is going to make a great job and that's my hope, even if I don't believe that it will happen.

About Berlusconi: in my opinion he has to come out politics and leave the stage to someone with less interests. If it will happen the center-right my recover the leadership, otherwise it's better that Prodi stays where's now and we'll see if we were coglioni to vote him or not...

    Take care my brother!
